Bed Bug Treatment Products

What is it?

Bed bugs are small, oval-shaped insects that survive on the blood of animals and humans. These bugs are smart, tough, and sneaky, knowing exactly where to hide in order to avoid detection whilst being able to live for months between meals. Bed bugs tend to live in the cracks and crevices in and around your bed and are known to frequently appear within mattress seams, travel on clothing, furniture, bedding, and luggage.

Moreover, bed bugs reproduce quickly, meaning it’s crucial to prevent an infestation at its infancy to remove the problem before it worsens. Generally speaking, bed bugs are more of a nuisance pest than a serious health threat; however, their presence can be distressing and their bites highly irritating.

Fortunately, through a combination of solid prevention strategies, effective pest control products and bed bug treatment, you can get rid of bed bugs – fast.

Bed Bug Treatment Frequently Asked Questions

What Are the Signs of a Bed Bug Infestation?

Waking up with itchiness in areas of your body you didn’t experience before falling asleep may indicate bed bugs – especially if you’ve recently come back from travelling or have bought used furniture. Other signs include blood stains on sheets and pillowcases, dark or rusty spots of bed bug excrement, fecal spots, eggshells of shed skins. You may also notice a musty odour.

If you experience any of these situations, you should apply treatment and pest control immediately.

What to Do After Bed Bug Treatment?

After you complete bed bug treatment, Hovex recommends washing all your bedding at a temperature of at least 60°C. This heat should be enough to kill all remaining bed bugs and any residual eggs.

After travelling, always inspect suitcases before bringing them inside your home, particularly if you’ve been staying in shared accommodation. Also, be wary of purchasing second-hand furniture and inspect old beds to check they’re not carrying any unwanted travellers.

How Long After Bed Bug Treatment Can I Vacuum?

Before you vacuum your home, you should do your laundry first. As you do your laundry, any residual eggs get destroyed.

Once you’re done with the laundry, you can vacuum the home. Do not vacuum clean immediately after you’ve applied treatment, however, as the pesticides within stick to surfaces for some time afterwards. This residual effect helps to eliminate your infestation.

As such, we recommend vacuuming your home every day at least four days following treatment. If your vacuum cleaner requires a bag, only use disposable bags, and throw them away in outdoor garbage immediately after vacuuming.

How Many Treatments to Kill Bed Bugs?

Typically, at least two full treatments are needed to ensure that any bed bugs inside your home are exterminated. This is because bed bugs lay eggs that are very small, hard to locate and may potentially survive the initial treatment. These eggs may also hatch into tiny bed bug nymphs, which are often unaffected by the pesticide residue of prior treatments.

With each treatment, you should see fewer and fewer bed bugs. If, after three weeks from the initial treatment date, you are still experiencing bites, you should undergo another treatment.

Is Bed Bug Treatment Safe for Pets?

Bed bug treatment is safe for pets if done correctly. Within some pest control products, some toxic chemicals can be potentially harmful to pets if they’re exposed.

To keep your pets safe, keep them off any treated surfaces until their dry. This may take 1-2 hours.

Is It Normal to See Bed Bugs After Treatment?

You are very likely to continue seeing bed bugs following the initial treatment. Depending on the pest control products used, the time taken to kill bed bugs varies. Whatever happens, there will be eggs that have to hatch and then die for the infestation to disappear completely.

In saying this, effective heat treatment will kill bed bugs in the course of a few hours. This is why we recommend washing your bed sheets at high temperatures after the initial treatment. Remember to be patient with bed bug management, it takes time for the infestation to disappear completely.
