Fly Spray Products

What is it?

One of the most significant downsides to warm weather is the emergence of flies. Flies will try their utmost to ruin your weekend barbeques or picnics, choosing to make themselves right at home. However, flies aren’t just highly annoying with their constant buzzing and determination to land on your skin, they can be dangerous too. Flies land on fecal matter, dead animals, food scraps and can pick up disease and other nasty bacteria.

A couple of flies can quickly turn into a fly invasion, potentially compromising the health of everyone inside your home. Thankfully, a combination of effective prevention strategies and pest control products such as fly spray can ensure that most fly problems are easily solved. In saying this, there’s nothing worse than thinking you’ve gotten rid of flies, only for them to come right back. You’ll want to make sure that you solve your fly problem once and for all.

This is why you need to make sure you’re not using any old fly spray or the first you can find. When it comes to dealing with flies, you need a reliable, effective solution. That’s where we come in.

Fly Spray Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Fly Spray Work?

Hovex’s insect spray contains compounds that are neurotoxic for flies. These compounds penetrate the fly’s exoskeleton and locate a neuron to attach to, preventing the sodium channels within from closing, which leads to paralysis. The compounds within the spray over-stimulate a fly’s muscles, preventing it from receiving oxygen and thus asphyxiating. As you would assume, it’s not a very nice feeling for them.

All you have to do is spray the fly for a couple of seconds. That’s it!

Can Fly Spray Kill Spiders?

Sort of, but it’s not the same.

Fly and mosquito spray is not anywhere near as effective on spiders as a specialised spider spray is. This is because the composition of a spider reacts differently to the chemicals inside fly and insect spray than a typical fly or insect would. Insects habitually clean their mouthparts with their legs and feet, this means that spray pesticides are easily transferred to the insects’ mouth, where it is ingested. On the other hand, spiders have long legs that keep their bodies well above the surface, meaning there’s little chance of absorbing pesticide from surface contact.

As such, we recommend only using pest control products that have been proven to incapacitate spiders specifically. Hovex has a range of sprays that work on spiders so that you can keep your family safe this summer.

Are Fly Sprays Harmful to Humans?

Fly spray does not affect humans like it affects flies and other insects. Whilst some sprays may trigger an allergic reaction for some people, the actual harm and risk is low to none. For insect sprays to be harmful in a way that would pose serious health risk, you’d have to ingest it or use it in a way that would result in large amounts of the liquid getting into your system.

It is a case of dosage to body mass ratio. As humans, we’re considerably larger than flies and as such, the dosage needed to kill a fly instantly would barely even affect a human.

How Long Does Fly Spray Take to Work?

Fly and insect sprays kill flies in seconds and can stay effective on surfaces for hours. Fly and insect spray can kill flies, whether they’re airborne or land on a sprayed-down surface. Most of the movement you see after those initial 10 seconds proceeding spray is possibly down to continued post-mortem muscle spasms, so don’t worry if they keep moving.

Is There a Spray to Get Rid of Fruit Flies?

Our fly and insect spray will kill fruit flies. However, you need to make sure that you clear their breeding area to prevent future fruit flies from annoying you throughout the summer. Fruit fly breeding areas are often located around garbage or decaying organic matter. If you find one of these areas, make sure to spray it with plenty of spray.
